Near the end of last summer, I found out about a tomato variety called "San Francisco Fog". What a great name and it sounded perfect for growing in my foggy neighborhood.
I've since read that the "San Francisco Fog" tomatoes might not be the best variety to grow in SF: 'San Francisco Fog' Tomatoes Disappointing, but in the process, I discovered that different types of tomatoes are suited to different climates (duh).
There are hundreds of tasty tomato varieties, often with clever names to match. Tomato Growers Supply Company has pictures and descriptions of many.
So though I may never grow "San Francisco Fog" tomatoes, still love the name!

I used to live in Napa and when I moved in to the house I lived in there was already a garden growing. SF Fog tomatoes were one of the things growing. I loved, loved LOVED them! In Napa we did get some fog but it usually burned off mid-day. It was a cooler climate than what I was used to--being from north Texas and these tomatoes were fantastic in cooler temps and would just go crazy if it was really warm. We did have some really warm temps there too, they just didnt last a long time like the very long Texas summers. The SF Fog tomato reminds me a little of early girl taste wise. Firm and a little on the acidic side, not too sweet or mushy. I now live in CO and I am just about to order the seeds as I think it may be perfect for the climate here. You should try it. Seeds are cheap and if they don't work out for you, your not out much! If they do work out for you, you will love them!
